At A Glance:

This Rigger Level 1 Safety Training covers rigger and signal safety as applicable for all industries, with a strong maritime focus.

Upon successful completion of the class, students will receive a Rigger Level 1 certification card, valid for five years.

Rigger Level 1 training is offered at the Illustra Training Facility as a live, in-person class, as well as virtually via online video conferencing.

Students may enroll in either English- or Spanish-language class offerings for Rigger Level 1 Safety Training. Our instructors are bilingual and provide training as well as curriculum support in either language.

Rigger Level 1 Certification

OSHA Outreach Training for Rigger Level 1 Certification provides employers and workers with the necessary training to ensure safety during general rigging operations as well as safe rigging practices specific to maritime industry shipyard and ship repair.

Course Overview:

This comprehensive 4 hour Rigger Level 1 Certification training equips students with the essential knowledge and hands-on experience to perform rigging and signaling tasks safely and efficiently.

With a strong emphasis on the Maritime Industry, Rigger Level 1 training covers OSHA as well as NAVSEA and additional standards for employers and workers to ensure safety during general rigging operations as well as safe rigging practices specific to shipyard rigging.

Who Should Take This Rigger Level 1 Certification Course:

 This course is intended for both employers and workers involved in any aspect of rigging. Students will learn how to identify potential hazards, safe rigging practices, and proper use of equipment. Rigger Level 1 training covers topics like load calculations, equipment inspections, signaling and communication techniques, and emergency procedures.

Riggers & Signal Persons

Riggers and signal persons working in any industry responsible for lifting, moving, or transporting equipment or materials in either elevated positions or on the ground.

Crane Operators, Millwrites, etc

Workers whose job often includes performing rigging-related tasks when lifting, moving or installing heavy equipment and materials.

Employers / Supervisors / Managers

Companies  employing workers with operations relating to rigging, as well as supervisors and managers responsible for rigging projects and teams, or involved in planning and coordination.

NOTE: Rigger Level 1 Certification is intended for employers and workers in all industries, however also covers additional safety standards and practices specific to the Maritime industry: rigging in port facilities, on ships, and offshore platforms including specialized rigging equipment and materials for maintenance, construction, operation, and handling cargo loading, unloading, and securing goods.

Upon successfully completing this course, you will be given your Rigger Level 1 certification card (or instructed how to download your certification card if taking the course online).

How Long Is My Certification Card Good For?

Your Rigger Level 1 certification is typically valid for five years from the course completion date.

Will I learn rigging hand signals in this class, or does it require different training?

Rigger Level 1 covers signaling and communication techniques. It is not required to take an additional class for signaling training.

Do I need additional training to work on military ships, or does this certification cover all industries including maritime?
